Tips of Making Up Your Camping Gear

You are going camping! That is exciting. But with all of the things you need to bring, you are all confused and your idea of fun is slowly draining. How the hell are you going to start gathering up your camping gear. You personally need to ensure that you have all the basic camping gear in the right place before you start camping. Here are sure ways to help you round up your stuff to compose the best of your camping gear.

1) You may need extra camping gear more than you will ever know if you plan on camping for extended periods or if you are planning to camp outside of the cabin. Hence, you must plan your camping. If you are staying out in the wilderness instead of staying in a hikers’ cabin, then you have to carry a suitable tent, comfortable sleeping bags, or mosquito repellers. If you planning on staying longer, then there is a need for lighting batteries, more food supplies, or cooking equipments. It all depends on what you are planning to do on your trip. Have a list of activities to do alongside with the materials needed. Do not forget necessary items. As much as possible avoid the luxury ones. Do not bring things that you won’t be needing. The idea with outdoor travels is packing light for ease of travel.

2) Get information and discounts on the best camping gear from catalogues. Every now and then, camping gear manufacturers and stockers send out mags or flyers with festive sales, discounts, or special infos. So make the most out of it.

3) Go to the large shopping malls like Wal-Mart. They hold an array of basic camping gear available at a wide range of budget. They are also great for purchasing cheap but good enough camping gear (Just make sure to consider buying the more durable equipment, not just the good-for-one-use items, if you are a frequent camper).

4) Practical experience tells you that you can make your own camping gear. Gather up on some books or online tutorials and march to the do-it-yourself store. Most of the items you probably need are just lying around the house. This reduces your camping gear expenses at a fraction of the cost. Plus, doing activities like this adds in to the fun of camping.

5) Ask around among family and friends if they have the camping gear you need. There is always the practical benefit of mutual borrowing. Go ahead and buy one or two quality items that you can exchange. Just make sure that you do not cause damage to others’ invested equipment.

6) Before buying anything else, consider the best backpack you could ever get to hold in the rest of your camping gear. This is probable the one thing that you want to invest in. Buy a good quality bag with just the right size (style is not that necessary). You certainly don’t want myriads of mini bags or tied-to-rope items hanging around when you traveling outdoors. And trust me, you will know what and how much to put in right after you have a good idea of where to put it.

7) Check your food items. Consider taking in less by preferring dehydrated meals that are lightweight. When it comes to water, it is better to carry much as there may be no available safe drinking water around on the camp site. Bring very little sauces and seasonings like sugar and salt. You may not need jars and jars of them if you know what I mean.

8) Consider the time of the year you will be traveling. If you are going out on the summer months, then bring along light clothing. If you are going out on the cooler months, then pack heavier but warmer clothing. And you might be needing a quality rainwear regardless of the forecast.

9) Share your camping gear between hiking partners. Delegate who will bring what. This reduces the possibility of bringing more than you will need. You do not need too many flashlights do you? You get the idea.

So those are the tips. Escaping the great outdoors is exciting, and to consider carefully planning your basic camping gear can even get you a long way in having the best vacation ever.

Camping Gear – Choosing the Right Camping Gear

Choosing camping gear is not about buying the latest, most popular or even the most expensive equipment. Camping equipment should be affordable and suitable for your needs.

The key to choosing the right gear is to know what you will encounter on your camping trip. How long you will be camping also influences what camping gear you would need.

Consider which gear is essential based on the terrain and weather conditions. You can still have many choices of gear which are still practical and functional even if you are on a tight budget.

It’s easy to get distracted by all the gear you see in camping stores but you need to focus on the camping gear that you will definitely need and would later prove useful to your needs.

You also wouldn’t want to carry too much gear and equipment if you can. The rule of thumb is to carry not more than a third of your body weight.

The strongest camping and hiking gear may be too heavy or lack the features you need so evaluate the conditions of the terrain and decide if you really need gear that may be overkill. Contact the local tourist office to find out about weather conditions and terrain before you start buying new equipment or before you pack what you have already.

Sometimes you will go through a variety of conditions and terrain in the same camping trip so make sure you take this into account when choosing camping gear. For example if you go on a mountain hike, the conditions and terrain would be different at the top of the climb than at the beginning.

If the weather is unpredictable bring rain gear and pack your gear in a waterproof enclosure so that it remains dry.

Making Your Own Camping Checklist

A camping checklist is something that evolves as you gain more experience camping. It not only makes sure that you carry everything that you might need but it also can be used to make sure that you don’t carry too much camping equipment.

To make a dynamic camping checklist that you be useful for different occasions make a note of which camping gear you did or did not use and alter you list accordingly.

The camping list may change from each camping trip as you encounter different conditions. This is the trial and error method for choosing the right camping equipment for you.

As you take notes on which equipment works best for different situations and which gear you wish you had or how much of the camping supplies you had used up in your camping trip your list will become better, more useful and more customized to your individual needs.

Making your backpack lighter

While the camping gear checklist can possibly make your backpack lighter by reducing the number of camping, it may take a few camping trips to get it right.

With new technology camping equipment are increasingly lighter and smaller with new designs and materials. Choosing a lighter alternative to the same piece of gear can significantly reduce your overall load. It is not necessary to sacrifice certain essentials just to make your backpack lighter.

A lighter backpack will help you travel more quickly and cover more distances in a day and put less stress on your knees, shoulders, neck and back.

These 5 tips will help you reduce the weight of your backpack.

• Get rid excess – Don’t bring extra changes of clothing more than one. Don’t bring more than one cooking pot.

• If you are hiking in a group or someone else try to share some of the camping gear that can be conveniently shared like camping tent, camping stove, insect repellent etc.

• Replace camping equipments with lighter versions of it. Lightweight components and simple designs can almost maximize function while minimizing weight.

• Use camping gear that can perform different functions.

• Use travel size versions for consumables like soap and toothpaste and try to reduce packaging.

Traveling with a big load on your back is not fun and most times unnecessary. If that’s what you’ve been doing you’ll appreciate how easy it is to travel with a lighter load. Keeping your body in shape can help you carry your load better still.

As a novice to camping in the great outdoors you may be tempted to buy no-name brand camping equipment, which is OK in the beginning. However, you will learn fast, that cheap camping equipment does not make a Happy Camper. As in all things cheap, it usually breaks, or wears out far to soon. Once you’ve been camping a few times and have decided that camping is right for your lifestyle, then you will want to buy quality camping equipment built for the long term. There is no substitute for quality camping equipment folks!

I will share with you, in this article, how to buy high quality name brand camping gear at half price, or less. As an avid Outdoorsman I have purchased a lot of Outdoor Gear in my life. I use to buy all my camping gear from Mail Order Magazines, and many times I paid full price for the camping equipment that I bought. One day while researching outdoor survival techniques on the Internet, I stumbled across and Ebay Auction where they were selling water purification equipment for Backpackers. I decided to search on Ebay for camping equipment, and my life changed from that day on. On that day I registered with Ebay Auctions, and since then I have bought many outdoor related items, and have save an absolute bundle on all my Outdoor Gear.

When buying Ebay Camping Gear you will want to do a few searches to find the exact camping gear that you want to buy or bid on. You can also use the Category List to go direct to the Camping Equipment Category. You must be cautious and read each auction carefully to find out if there are any defects with the Camping Equipment you want to bid on. You can find great deals for less than half the retail price in the Department Stores, simply because the camping gear was lightly used.

The best deal I bid on and won at Ebay Auctions, was an expensive three room, name brand, camping tent, and I bought it for only pennies on the dollar because the seller had bought a popup camper, and no longer needed the tent, he simply needed the money to help pay for the new camper. You just never know what kind of great deals you will find on Ebay Camping Gear.

Since I have been buying my Outdoor Gear on Ebay Auctions I like to check out the retail prices in the stores such as Wal-Mart and K-Mart, so I will have a better idea of what camping equipment prices are running at the local stores. I also check on the Internet for camping equipment at the Online Camping Gear Stores, in order to see what prices they offer on their name brand items. After all a deal is not a deal if you pay to much, right!
